So, I went to a chiropractor.

Many people have suggested heading to a chiropractor to have my knee looked at. I have always had some sort of back issue since I was in a sledding accident in '03 but didn't think it would flare up in other ways. The thought of chiropractors have always made me worry. What if they twist you the wrong way?! When my niece was born, she had problems with colic. My brother took her to a chiropractor and the problems went away. I decided to advertise my need for a doctor on Facebook and see if anyone had been to a doctor that was good. When you're messing with your back, my first assumption would be to think - don't go somewhere shady!

I went for my first visit today and they have already made me a believer. After talking with the doctor and giving her my history she did a basic exam. They were like resistance exercises. "Hold your leg here, and don't let me push it down" type stuff. While she did the exercises to my left leg, it was super strong. When she came to my right leg - it had NO strength. I couldn't stop her from pushing my leg in any direction. After a few minutes, she mentioned my ankle was out of alignment along with IT band issues. Not to mention, my lower back problems from the past were playing a role in my pain as well. She decided to treat me today, since Disney is only 12 days away! She pulled on my ankle and it popped. My hip even popped. Then she twisted me around and put pressure on my lower back both directions wish caused loud cracks - but immediate relief! After performing these tasks, she tried the resistance exercised on my right leg again and what do you know, my strength was returning!!!!!!!! I was able to stop her from pushing my leg around. That right there made me a believer.

From our discussion, I had run my 20  miler in "dead" shoes. Oops... I had a feeling it was time for a new pair, but for some reason, thought I could make it. Then, running on the NCR trail (with slight downgrade the entire time) also put strain on my leg. Me nerves told me to alter the way my leg was running which threw my ankle out of alignment. Thus - creating strain on my IT band and knee. I'm going back tomorrow for another treatment and Friday.

I LOVE my chriopractor. I have rods in my back and I know I wouldn't be running if it was not for him.

Be leary of those that want to keep treating you. My chiropractor only wants to see me when IIII feel I need to see him. I know sometimes your first time, it's normal to take a couple of adjustments pretty close together cuz so much is out of alignment-but you should be able to feel when you need an adjustment-not when they tell you you need one...

That's fantastic news!

I had problems 3 weeks before Frederick -- same thing -- 9 chiro treatments in 3 weeks and I was goo to go! I still go every week or two just to stay tuned up!
